John Rosenthal is president & CEO of Rosenthal | Henry Capital Advisors, Inc. ("our Firm"). He also serves as Chief Investment Officer ("CIO") of our Firm. The Firm serves as the exclusive investment advisor and general partner for the 3 limited partnerships ("the Funds") we sponsor.

Mr. Rosenthal is responsible for making investment decisions for the Funds. Generally speaking, in making those decisions he follows the Investment Philosophy & Approach outlined in the About Our Firm page of our website.

John has spent his career analyzing, serving and leading community banks. Prior to starting our Firm, he served as chairman, president & CEO of St. Joseph Capital Corporation ("SJCC") and its wholly owned subsidiary, St. Joseph Capital Bank ("SJCB"). SJCC was an SEC registrant which conducted its IPO in 1996 - at which time it sold its common stock to the public for $10 per share. SJCB, a de novo bank, opened in February, 1997.

SJCB operated as an FDIC insured, state charted bank, with its headquarters and banking office located in Mishawaka, Indiana. It grew steadily and successfully throughout its existence. SJCC and SJCB were acquired by a larger regional bank in February of 2007 for $40 per share in an all cash transaction. He stayed with the acquiring bank in an executive leadership role during a 2 year transition period after the closing of that deal.

As CEO of SJCB, John had overall responsibility for the financial and operating performance of the bank. SJCB reached $500 million in total assets and had 80 employees at the time it was acquired. His leadership position at SJCB, combined with his roles and responsibilities providing correspondent banking services to community banks earlier in his career, have prepared him well for his current duties as CIO of our Firm.

Prior to founding SJCB, Rosenthal was a vice president & senior corporate banker at The First National Bank of Chicago. While at 1st Chicago, he served as a relationship manager in the U.S. Financial Institutions Division (correspondent banking). In his role, he provided a variety of consulting and analytical services to his clients which consisted exclusively of super-regional, regional, and community banks located throughout the Midwest and Southeast. John received several internal awards and recognitions from First Chicago for his success in serving his banking company clients.

John is a former faculty member of the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin and is currently an adjunct faculty member at his alma mater - the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame ('81) – where he has taught MBA and law school students for the past several years.

Rosenthal is the senior outside director of Materials Processing Inc. - a diversified manufacturing company headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. This important assignment gives him keen insights into macro-economic trends in the housing and automotive industries; which is relevant to his ongoing analysis of future potential asset quality trends in the banking industry. John is also a former director of Skyline Corporation where he served as chairman of the Audit committee. SKY, a NYSE listed company, merged with Champion Homes in 2018 and is involved in the manufactured housing business.

In addition to his extensive professional experience in banking, John has been very active in community affairs having previously served on the board of 12 not-for-profit corporations - chairing of 6 of those entities. In addition to his past board service, he is currently chairman emeritus of the St. Joseph Health System, Inc. and founding chairman of the Women's Care Center Foundation, Inc.

In 2002 John was honored by Ernst & Young as the "Entrepreneur of the Year" for the Northern District of Indiana. In 2010 he was presented with the "Spirit of Holy Cross Award" by the Priests of Holy Cross. Rosenthal's life-long involvement in the banking industry is his passion, hobby and professional calling.
